Retail Therapy

Filed under: Fashion — tikimama @ 2:12 pm

At lunch, my bgf and I went for a walk to get a little exercise (which I promptly offset by having a donut when I got back) and swung by the Goodwill on 10th (a “higher end” Goodwill downtown). I have been there a couple of times, but it really goes against my philosophy of thrifting: that it should be a treasure hunt. If someone else has already done the hunting for me, it’s no fun (same for eBay).

However, I saw these shoes and they are Franco Sarto and totally cute and $12.99!

Shoes!

The toe starts really low (just barely missing toe cleavage) so my feet look tiny. Which is a novel experience for a size 10.

Product Round-Up Follow-Up

In case anyone’s interesting in my impressions of everything after I’ve used it for a couple of weeks.

Pantene Pro-V Blonde Expressions Shampoo & Conditioner: I like the shampoo, but the conditioner is way too heavy. The only thing I ever do to my hair is color it, so it doesn’t really need “extra” conditioning. Smells good, though!

Target Skin Brightening Daily Scrub: still genius. A perfect level of exfoliation.

Target brand Body Wash, Deep Moisture: fine, moisture making. I dislike something about it, though, maybe the scent.

Vaseline Healthy Body Glow Daily Replenishing Moisturizer & Touch of Self Tanner: I used it faithfully for a week, it was fun to have a tan. However, it takes about 10 minutes to slather myself up, so I haven’t done it for a while. It took about 3 days to return to my usual pale self. I’ll probably start up again next week.

Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder: good, nice coverage. I think it stays all day, though I never remember to look at myself in the mirror in the afternoons. Considering how vain I am, I hardly ever look in the mirror.

Product Round-Up

Filed under: personal — tikimama @ 9:43 pm

I was out of almost every personal care product I use this week, so I went to Target to load up. I spent $45 which, might I remind you, is quite a lot for our currently one medium income household. For your amusement, here are my purchases and any opinion I have on them (so far).

Pantene Pro-V Blonde Expressions Shampoo, Color Enhancing, Platinum to Sand Dune $4.84
Shampoo
Pantene Pro-V Blonde Expressions Conditioner, Color Enhancing, Platinum to Sand Dune $4.84
Conditioner

I really wanted to buy TIGI Bed Head Dumb Blonde shampoo & conditioner, but I just couldn’t spend the $30. I love that stuff, it is the BEST and someday I will have it. Until then, I needed something to keep the brass out of my hair. I like this stuff so far, it smells good and doesn’t leave any residue.

The Target brand knockoff of Aveeno Skin Brightening Daily Scrub $4
Fabulous Face Scrub

I LOVE THIS STUFF! Since I use a Rx that dries out my face (Differin) I need something moisterizing and a little exfoliating, since I get a bit flaky. This is lovely and perfect and smells decent and doesn’t sting my eyes and leaves my face nice and smooth.

Target brand Body Wash, Deep Moisture $2.33
Body Wash

My legs get really dry, and I find I’m more likely to use a wash in the shower than lotion all the time. And I needed to scrub, since I also bought…

Vaseline Healthy Body Glow Daily Replenishing Moisturizer & Touch of Self Tanner, Fair $4.99
Tanning Lotion

Ok, I’m been dying to try this stuff since Jergens came out with it last year. I read Closet Therapy’s comparison of the different brands and went to Target intending to buy the Olay Quench lotion, but frugality won out in the end and I bought the Vaseline stuff, which was on sale. I put it on yesterday and I am a tad orange-y but not too streaky. I didn’t get face lotion, but I will probably pick this up next time I need face lotion:

Olay Complete Touch of Sun Daily UV Facial Moisturizer plus a touch of sunless tanner
Olay

I use Olay Complete All Day UV Defense Moisture Lotion right now, and I really like it, so I think I’ll like this. We’ll see.

Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder $9.99
Powder

I read all about mineral powder in Lucky and since I can’t afford Bare Minerals, I had to choose between this and Almay, and this was bigger for the same price. I’ve used it a couple of times, I like it ok.

I also got razors, and some bamboo bracelets (on sale 3 for $5!) which match the bamboo hoop earrings I have.
bracelet

I could spend so much money in a drugstore, I love buying this sort of stuff–lotions and creams and cleansers.

Another Inspiration

I found another “What I’m Wearing” section: Closet Therapy’s “Wearing Today” section. Tragically, she’s too self-concisous to show herself in the clothes (though she looks to have a nice body!) but the clothes are an interesting mix.

The Pain of Vanity

Filed under: Fashion — tikimama @ 8:35 pm

Today I wore my golden disco wedges and I have FOUR blisters already from them, merely from walking into the building and to and fro my desk.

I’m sure there is a lesson here about buying cheap plastic shoes from Target, but in the immortal words of Nora Charles: “But it’s so pretty!
