Cheap Contentment

Filed under: Fashion, personal — tikimama @ 9:43 pm

Ok, enough of that tree hugging hippie crap! Back to the shallow appearence and product obsessed!

I went to Nordstrom’s today at lunch and was overwhelmed by total and complete lust for everything there. I just wanted to buy everything even though I didn’t really see anything I was keen for (well, maybe this from Trina F’ing Turk:

Trina Turk Suit

but you know, I don’t think TT makes things in my size nor do I have the the $596 that outfit costs. But you can believe I would lay down the cash if I had it).

I just wanted to BUY BUY BUY. Which means it is time to clean out my closet, finally mend things I’ve got sitting in the mending pile, discover items I’d forgotten about and try new combinations. My beloved sister in law bought me the kickiest little green flip flops when she was here, they have sequins and rhinestones on them. Perfection.

Oh, and here are my two super cheapo fabu products for the week:

Purpose Gentle Cleansing Bar

Purpose

which I paid $2.16 for at Safeway. It’s fantastic, gentle and cleansing without being harsh. And I can see it is going to last forever.

Clean & Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer

C&C

Only I’m so ridiculously cheap I bought the Target brand for $4 instead of C&C for $6.

If it only had an spf in it, is would be perfection. I guess you can’t have everything right now. Or so they say, I am giving it my best try. I’ll email Trina about that plus-size line.

Tikimama the Secret Hippie

Filed under: Home, personal — tikimama @ 8:59 pm

Sometimes I wonder at the picture I paint of myself on the internet (here especially): shallow, shoe and clothes obsessed, Bitchy McBitch. Of course there is some truth to it: I do like shoes and clothes. But I’m a secret hippie! I have pics to prove it.

Gianormous Tomatoes!
Our giant tomato garden - four varieties this year. My toes for size comparison (the plants are about 4.5′ tall)

Tomato blossoms
These will be tasty cherry tomatoes soon!

Pumpkin et al
The other garden box: pumpkins (the giant one), cucumbers. zuchini & honeydew (not doing well). You can see our composter in the background and some of our blackberries. We have lots lots lots more.

wee cuke!
Baby Cuke!

Zucchinis!
One of approx. 17 billion zucchinis which we’ll have. Who wants some?

Mints of All Kinds in the Town
Mints! Everyone said “Oh, mint will just take over” and I really hoped it would and it did. L to R: Peppermint, chocolate mint, lemon balm, pineapple mint.

Preserves
I & Craig enjoy preserving in all forms. Here you can see: hot curried cauliflower, bread & butter pickles, whole dills, Branston pickle, dilly beans, blackberry lemon jam, blueberry lime jam, rasberry jam, apricot butter, champagne rose jelly, strawberry preserves (which had a Tragic Cinnamon Accident befall them and aren’t really good for jam - I’ve been trying to pass them off as Cinnamon Strawberry Daquiri mix with mixed reception), and a bottle of strawberry plum wine made by our friend C. We have a 5 gal bottle of dandelion wine ready to be bottled.

Budge Pudge!
Obligatory Budgie pic, with his new squeaky pig

So I have a compost bucket under the sink, I make my own jam & pickles, I’m a total hippie in the important ways. I’m a Renaissance Girl: organic for the good stuff, plastic for the silly stuff. I think its important to be well rounded.
But also, cute shoes are totally important.
