St V’s Day

Filed under: relationships — tikimama @ 10:50 am

I passed a 26 foot truck outside the florist’s today, packed to the brim with arrangements. Man, we are an original species, aren’t we?

This video sums up my feeling about the importance of Valentine’s Day:

Woman’s Vanity

Filed under: personal, randomosity — tikimama @ 5:56 pm

Me in 2002, originally uploaded by tikimama.

I used to have long, luxurious hair, and acne. In 2002, I spent eight months taking Accutane, which is the atom bomb of acne drugs. It worked fine, but it took a lot of my hair with it (permanent hair loss is one of those things they don’t mention much, they’re busy telling you about all the awesome birth defects it causes). I chopped my hair and moved on to cute short cuts, but sometimes I really do miss all that hair.

This is somewhere between the really vivid red I used to dye it and my natural blond. I had forgotten how much hair I used to have until I randomly found this pic. Honestly, I think it looks better short (the fact that I lost 35lbs between those two pics doesn’t hurt).

YAWYE

Craig and I are binging (ha!) on You Are What You Eat on BBC America. I know it has been canceled in the UK already, but apparently BBC America has purchased all three seasons. You should watch it! The voice over is hysterical, and you can feel superior (like us) if your diet is better than endless fry ups and pasties and donuts.

It is played twice a day with How Clean is Your House? which should NOT be watched while eating.

Sometimes I don’t think I’ll get over the fact that I don’t live in England. Except we bought a house and stuff, guess I will have to be satisfied with vacations. We’re closing on the house on Monday, which is super stressful. We’re coping with heavy drinking (as usual).

I know everyone likes pictures, so here is a photo booth set I dug up from 2003, of me & Craig and Craig & Blair.

Sunday Nights

Filed under: personal — tikimama @ 11:27 pm

Sunday has to be my least favorite night of the week (I know it’s yours, too). The whole back to work thing is a drag, of course, and the regret over what you didn’t get done on the weekend…anyway, here are some pics to make the return to the Real World more surreal.

A picture I thought I’d shared, I took it a million years ago at Target. For some reason, this struck Craig and I as very funny, and occasionally we say “feces!” to each other apropos of nothing. Yes, we’re strange.

Feces

We went to Seattle a couple of weeks ago (sorry Seattle peeps if I didn’t see you, there isn’t always enough of me to go around), and C & I took tons of drink pics (he posted more coherently about the cocktail aspects of the trip here), here are a few I took on the way to Zig Zag:

Scary Wig Man!
Man Wig

More Scary Wigs!
Wig Wall!

Even More Wigs!
Wigs Wigs Wigs

I don’t know why I find wigs so strange and surreal, I think it is the repetition and the frankly terrifying faces on the heads.

I also visited Seattle’s biggest gay bar, The Cuff (it was indeed huge) and it made me really miss San Francisco. Sure, we have nudity here, but no one ever dances, dammit.

F*ck the SuperBowl

Filed under: Fashion, Food, Home, personal — tikimama @ 12:38 pm

Jesus, I am sick of the SuperBowl already. I’ll be watching the PuppyBowl, thanks! I’m so ready for every food blog to move on from “What [totally cliche] thing are you serving for the SB?” for every topic. Though I do have this great pork verde chili recipe from the CIA that Craig got while working there..

Have you guys watched Down Home with the Neelys yet? I’m watching it right now and it is genius. They are fun and the food looks delicious. I want my own cooking show.

We close on the house on Feb 11, I expect we’ll move in March 1 or so. So I might have a nervous breakdown between now and March 1. Between spending that amount of money, taking on who knows what sorts of projects, and packing all our 17 million pounds of crap, working and finishing school, I hope I survive until Spring.

Oh, speaking of stress coping mechanisms, I bought three new pairs of shoes:

1. Aerosoles Romeo in Brown. I now have enough pairs of brown shoes. Bliss.

Aerosoles Romeo

2. Aerosoles What’s What Revivals in Black. I’m rocking a vintage look this year, can you tell?

Revivals

3. A pair of Fluevogs! Finally. They are a d’orsay pump from the Friends line, which I cannot find a pic of and am too lazy to take one. It will give you something to look forward to.
