F*ck the SuperBowl

Filed under: Fashion, Food, Home, personal — tikimama @ 12:38 pm

Jesus, I am sick of the SuperBowl already. I’ll be watching the PuppyBowl, thanks! I’m so ready for every food blog to move on from “What [totally cliche] thing are you serving for the SB?” for every topic. Though I do have this great pork verde chili recipe from the CIA that Craig got while working there..

Have you guys watched Down Home with the Neelys yet? I’m watching it right now and it is genius. They are fun and the food looks delicious. I want my own cooking show.

We close on the house on Feb 11, I expect we’ll move in March 1 or so. So I might have a nervous breakdown between now and March 1. Between spending that amount of money, taking on who knows what sorts of projects, and packing all our 17 million pounds of crap, working and finishing school, I hope I survive until Spring.

Oh, speaking of stress coping mechanisms, I bought three new pairs of shoes:

1. Aerosoles Romeo in Brown. I now have enough pairs of brown shoes. Bliss.

Aerosoles Romeo

2. Aerosoles What’s What Revivals in Black. I’m rocking a vintage look this year, can you tell?

Revivals

3. A pair of Fluevogs! Finally. They are a d’orsay pump from the Friends line, which I cannot find a pic of and am too lazy to take one. It will give you something to look forward to.

Tikimama is Eaten by Tiki Kon

Filed under: Fashion, personal — tikimama @ 3:02 pm

Film at 11! I won’t bother to apologize, you know this happens to me every year - the Kon eats up my already spare spare time.

I am completely remiss in telling you the really exciting news: I bought white pants!

Julie!

They are basically the same pants I talked about earlier, though these are a bit less white and have cute sailor-y buttons on them. I went on a little shopping spree at Ann Taylor Loft (to celebrate a promotion and subsequent raise*), where I have never been because I thought they didn’t carry my size(14/16). Apparently they do, and they were having a damn good sale. So my dream of white pants has been realized, and it is everything I ever dreamt.

Other than that, I passed my two classes spring term, putting me at 2/3rds of the way to a degree as a Librarian. Weeee. As of now, nearly every minute is taken up by TK stuff. I’ll see you again in August.

*I never talk about work here, and not because it is secret or I’m worried about getting terminated. The reality is: my job, my co-workers and my workplace are all awesome and there is nothing more boring than someone talking about how much they love their job. ZZZzzzz. The parts that are irritating are well documented in any number of technical supporting whining sites. I’ve been doing this long enough (10 years! Argh) that most of the “cup holder/where is the any button” stuff rolls right off me. In case you were wondering if I even had a job.

Summertime!

Filed under: Fashion — tikimama @ 9:55 am

Ok, technically it is only just springtime, but I do start looking ahead and thinking about white white white! I, as a klutz and a spill-er should never wear white, but I always want to. I think Ann Taylor Loft has my number this year, they introduced these “Julie” pants, with a “curvy” fit and a straight leg, and they have them in WHITE

Ann Taylor Loft Julie Trousers

I mean, can’t you see these with a crisp nautical look? I have blue and white striped wedges that would be perfect with these, and I just bought a silver anchor necklace. Fleet Week, here I come.

Sunday Brunch Follow Up

Filed under: Fashion, Food, personal — tikimama @ 10:26 pm

This is what yesterday’s brunch looked like.

Screwdrivers & Marys

We have a new breakfast fav place - basically the bar on the golf course which serves food. Greasy, delicious food.

Properly liqoured up, S & I went shopping while Craig & B played Wii (of course we didn’t watch the Superbowl, who are we?!). I bought these strange (the inside is sticky and black…) and fabulous (”Caboodles” brand!) boots.

Boots

$10. God bless the Goodwill.

CraftyMama

Filed under: Fashion — tikimama @ 9:28 pm

Add crafting to the lists of stuff I should really blog about. I sew, I knit, I’m generally crafty. Anyway, I am going to make this sweater:

Tubey!

With this yarn (Cascade ‘Cherub’!):

Pink and Green

It is REALLY fuscia, I plan to make a green stripe on the body on some one the sleeves. I will blind people.

Hot Swedish Librarians and Shoes

Filed under: Fashion, personal — tikimama @ 10:57 pm

I think that about covers the most important things in life.

Have you guys seen these Hot Swedish Librarians? One of them, Anna, has a fashion blog and is awesome (I think, my Swedish is a little…non-existent). Look at her shoes!

Gold!

and these!

Green!

Those are some seriously hot librarian shoes. It’s funny, I have realized lately that I never talk about being an (almost) librarian. I don’t volunteer that I’m in library school to co-workers, new friends, hardly at all. I’m not sure why - I feel a bit like a fraud (since I don’t work in a library). Also, my shoes don’t measure up!

Dr Scholl's Gold Mules

Nine West Red Wedges

Would it be wrong to wear those wedges with black tights?

You heard it here first, the next big wave in fashion, courtesy of one Jaakko from Hel Looks:

God, I hope so.

Must Resist!

Filed under: Fashion — tikimama @ 12:02 pm

Must…not…buy…at…Wal-Mart!

But but but:

Houndstooth Pantsuit!
$63 total for this cute outfit, and the pants come in knee length. Grrrrr!

Purple pintucked blouse!

$22.50 I have been looking for a pintucked blouse for a really long time that will fit me. I suspect Walmart’s sizing runs big.

Purple tweed suit

$37 as shown. That skirt is adorable, and $15!

More purple tweed suit!

$37 as shown. The kicky pleats! Ahhhhhh!
And the piece de resistance…

Black trench with white piping
$39.82!!! This is a coat I saw like three years ago at Macy’s in SF, I think it was I.N.C.

God, that I.N.C. stuff is dead cute. But it isn’t $15! I will not buy at Wal-Mart. What if I shoplifted it? I’m almost kidding.

I actually have The Wal-Mart Effect from the library, I hope it will give me strength.

Spendy

Filed under: Fashion — tikimama @ 5:01 pm

Sorry I’ve abandoned you all! I was taking a summer course which kicked my ass. To celebrate (and because I’m going to be in a wedding, and special occasions are great shopping excuses) I purchased this dress:

J Crew Dress

J Crew Halter embossed beach dress, $98

Of course, I’m sure I’ll look just like the model in it:

Vapid Model

I’ll try and master that vapid look.

and to go with it, these shoes:

Metinee

Aerosoles Metinee, $29.99 ON SALE! Weeee!

I heart Aerosoles, my beloved “Uhuru boots”

Boots!

are Aerosoles, and they appear to be a standard, so I might have to get a new pair this year, these ones are getting a bit worn. But so comfy!

Cheap Contentment

Filed under: Fashion, personal — tikimama @ 9:43 pm

Ok, enough of that tree hugging hippie crap! Back to the shallow appearence and product obsessed!

I went to Nordstrom’s today at lunch and was overwhelmed by total and complete lust for everything there. I just wanted to buy everything even though I didn’t really see anything I was keen for (well, maybe this from Trina F’ing Turk:

Trina Turk Suit

but you know, I don’t think TT makes things in my size nor do I have the the $596 that outfit costs. But you can believe I would lay down the cash if I had it).

I just wanted to BUY BUY BUY. Which means it is time to clean out my closet, finally mend things I’ve got sitting in the mending pile, discover items I’d forgotten about and try new combinations. My beloved sister in law bought me the kickiest little green flip flops when she was here, they have sequins and rhinestones on them. Perfection.

Oh, and here are my two super cheapo fabu products for the week:

Purpose Gentle Cleansing Bar

Purpose

which I paid $2.16 for at Safeway. It’s fantastic, gentle and cleansing without being harsh. And I can see it is going to last forever.

Clean & Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer

C&C

Only I’m so ridiculously cheap I bought the Target brand for $4 instead of C&C for $6.

If it only had an spf in it, is would be perfection. I guess you can’t have everything right now. Or so they say, I am giving it my best try. I’ll email Trina about that plus-size line.
