I keep thinking I should write a deep and meaningful post about motherhood, about how this transition into a mother has been - you know: the trials, the tribulations, the joys, the adjustment, the “who am I now?” moments. I’ve been reading Mommyblogs for years with all that stuff.
Except I find myself with nothing to say. Parenthood is just as challenging as I’d imagined - sleepless nights, crying babies, the whole bag with this thankless custodial arrangement. And yes, your child smiling at you is as fantastic as I’d hoped. But I still feel the same, like me. Only with a tiny unreasonable person attached.
I realize we’re lucky over here - the kid is healthy and mellow and doesn’t really have any big issues. Craig and I older and stable and we worked towards this for two years. Maybe all that makes the transition easier. Or maybe I’m fooling myself, maybe I’m still living in the post birth cocoon.
In any case, being a mama so far is grand.
Sara is having a clothing swap, so I needed to go through my wardrobe to purge. This means shoes, too. I had no idea how many shoes I owned, other than “a lot.” Culling through them I discovered:
49 pairs.
Seriously. So I decided that was far too many, especially because I haven’t worn some of them in a long while. I girded my loins and tossed…5 pairs. That’s it. I might have a slight shoe issue. Especially because the biggest lesson I learned in my deep cull was that I don’t own any shoes more colorful than a light reddish brown. That’s right, 44 pairs and I’m already plotting pairs 45, 46, 47…
Actually, the Goodwill today presented me with a bargain too good to pass up:

$4, Aerosoles suede flower flats. I was powerless against them. Orange flowers!
I’m sorry I have no time for you, internet. I am planning a shoe-centric post soon. Hope you’re all out there living it up in meatspace.
I think most of you who read this already know that Sebastian was born last week - Jan 10. He’s been a delight so far (love that newborn honeymoon period!) and it is still surreal to have a tiny person that we MADE here.
We scored Rock Band 2 at the Circuit City liquidation sale yesterday, and here is S & I rocking out. Well, I rocked he mostly slept.
Life is good!
Everyone think No Labor thoughts for me, since we can’t get the car out! Taking a the bus to the hospital sounds funny, but would probably not be fun.
It is a triumph of fashion over discomfort and sensibility.
Budgie made it through his surgery with flying colors. He even got to keep nine of his teeth, though he lost almost all of the teeth on one side, meaning his tongue will probably stick out, which is too cute to bear thinking about. I was so worried about him today, we really do love that little dog an awful lot.
is to write on my blog more! Honestly. Or at least post pictures. I have boatloads of pictures I have taken - of food, of Budgie, of my house, of random things - that never see the light of internet.
In light of my resolution, here are a bunch of pics I’ve had languishing on my desktop, waiting for retouching and uploading. But since I never got around to it, I’m just dumping them here already.
